Morning Devotional 040522 What is Growing Around You?

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

April 5, 2022

Read Luke 13:18-21

18 Jesus asked, “What is God’s kingdom like? To what can I compare it? 19 It’s like a mustard seed that someone took and planted in a garden. It grew and developed into a tree and the birds in the sky nested in its branches.” 20 Again he said, “To what can I compare God’s kingdom? 21 It’s like yeast, which a woman took and hid in a bushel of wheat flour until the yeast had worked its way through the whole.”

Good Morning, God’s kingdom is forever growing!

I shared with you a few weeks ago about being asked to name an object that represents our calling by God, and that my item is a seed. I have always been amazed by the process of life as demonstrated by a seed. How do you take something that has no semblance of life and imagine a beautiful plant growing from it? Of course, if the seed remains in the package or on the counter it does not sprout, but when placed in soil and given water, nutrients, and sunshine the mystery of life occurs.

As believers, when our seeds of faith are nourished through prayer, reading the Scriptures, and fellowship with the Son, our seedlings begin to sprout and we discover what gifts God has given us. Some of us are beautiful flowers that brighten the lives of others and give nourishment to God’s creatures. While others of us may produce luscious fruit to sustain the physical needs of others. Some plants grow quickly while others are very slow in their growth.

Regardless of our gifts, when we are rooted in our faith, we build our foundation upon Jesus, and we continue to nourish our seeds through praying, reading Scripture, and joining in Christian fellowship we become strong, healthy plants through which new plants grow. As God’s children, we are called to multiply and flourish as we fill the land with hope, joy, and love.

Loving and Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. Help us to marvel when we see You at work in our lives and in the world around us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: God can grow something wonderful from my tiny seeds of faith.
