Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
April 9, 2026
Exodus 14:10-14
10 As Pharaoh drew closer, the Israelites looked back and saw the Egyptians marching toward them. The Israelites were terrified and cried out to the LORD. 11 They said to Moses, “Weren’t there enough graves in Egypt that you took us away to die in the desert? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt like this? 12 Didn’t we tell you the same thing in Egypt? ‘Leave us alone! Let us work for the Egyptians!’ It would have been better for us to work for the Egyptians than to die in the desert.” 13 But Moses said to the people, “Don’t be afraid. Stand your ground, and watch the LORD rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never ever see again. 14 The LORD will fight for you. You just keep still.”
Good Morning! Stand up and Bless the Lord!
When it feels as if evil is closing in, the Lord will rescue us. The daily newscasts are filled with the work of evil as it canvases the countryside. Some close their doors and cower inside their dwellings, hoping that the evil will not enter through the closed door. Others try to outrun the evil as they dash into unknown lands. Still others seem frozen in place, unable to move.
We, God’s chosen ones, are called to stand our ground. If no one stands strong before evil, evil will win, and all will be lost. Think about a time when a playground bully was incessantly picking on others they thought were weak. Each day, the bully would target these children until they were too frightened to go out and play.
Now imagine what you would do in this situation. Would you turn away and try to ignore the bully's injustice? Would you watch and do nothing? Would you join in taunting those who are being bullied? Would you go and stand between the bully and the target?
God calls us to stand for what is right, even when we are scared. For those who take the risk of protecting those who are suffering, God will fight for us. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
God of Wisdom, you bless us abundantly! Help us be Christ for those in need. Thank you. We love you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
Thought for the day: Stand against injustice toward others.
Be brave and risk showing love and compassion! Pastor Liz
