Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
April 11, 2026
Matthew 25:34-40
34 “Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who will receive good things from my Father. Inherit the kingdom that was prepared for you before the world began. 35 I was hungry and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me. 36 I was naked and you gave me clothes to wear. I was sick and you took care of me. I was in prison and you visited me.’ 37 “Then those who are righteous will reply to him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink? 38 When did we see you as a stranger and welcome you, or naked and give you clothes to wear? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 “Then the king will reply to them, ‘I assure you that when you have done it for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you have done it for me.’
Good Morning! When you have done it for the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you have done it for Christ!
Let’s start where we ended yesterday. Make a decision to allow the Holy Spirit to move you as God presents opportunities to serve others.
Because God gave us free will, we are tasked with making choices. Each choice we make sets a direction or tone for what comes next. The easiest choice is to do nothing, or to close ourselves off so that we can claim ignorance of the situation. Nothing can be gained from this choice. It’s bad for you and for everyone else.
You can choose to make excuses. In this case, you are aware of the needs, but you list all of the reasons you can’t help: too busy, too old, too young, or don’t know what or how to do. Again, nothing can be gained from this choice for you or others.
Truly, the only choice is to do the best we can with what we have. Not one of us is expected to do everything. As a friend always says, many hands make light work. God gives each of us talents and gifts to share. When everyone does their part, no matter how insignificant it may seem, all are blessed.
Working together to meet the needs of all is what the sheep do.
God of Wisdom, you bless us abundantly! Help us throw away our excuses and work together to love all your children by meeting their needs. Thank you. We love you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
Thought for the day: When we care for others, we care for Jesus!
Seek opportunities to help others! Pastor Liz
