Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
April 12, 2026
Hebrews 11:8-10
8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was going to receive as an inheritance. He went out without knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he lived in the land he had been promised as a stranger. He lived in tents along with Isaac and Jacob, who were coheirs of the same promise. 10 He was looking forward to a city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
Good Morning! God has a plan for our lives!
I believe it is safe to say that most of us struggle with uncertainty. Not knowing is a frequent intruder in our lives. Whether it is job insecurities, financial struggles, medical diagnoses, or just waiting to see what happens next, we worry over the possible outcomes.
This worry is often filled with all of the worst case scenarios. We can fret ourselves into an illness. I know of only one way to approach such times, and it is to turn it over to God.
27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? 33But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own. [Matthew 25]
I would love to proclaim that I have mastered this, but I would be deceiving both you and me. I do continue to practice and struggle with this with each challenge, but by God’s grace, I move forward just a little. As such, I celebrate my little victories when I let go of my worries, even for a moment.
Whatever our worries, God is waiting to take them from us. Jesus said, “Come unto me, you who are weary, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” [Matthew 28]
God of Wisdom, you bless us abundantly! O God, we struggle with the unknown. Thank you for being with us to hold us up when we feel as if we are falling. Thank you. We love you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
Thought for the day: Turn your eyes upon Jesus!
Live in the light of God’s glory and grace! Pastor Liz
