Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
April 13, 2022
Read Isaiah 26:3-8
3 You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you. 4 Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself is the Rock eternal. 5 He humbles those who dwell on high, he lays the lofty city low; he levels it to the ground and casts it down to the dust. 6 Feet trample it down—the feet of the oppressed, the footsteps of the poor. 7 The path of the righteous is level; you, the Upright One, make the way of the righteous smooth. 8 Yes, Lord, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.
Good Morning, Keep yourself focused on God!
How do we keep our minds steadfast in God? First on this list is to turn all worry over to God. We know that God promises to help us through any storm that presents itself to us. Yet, we still find our minds fixating on the storms. As children of God, we must let go of our worries and focus on what is past the storm. We must be able to “see the field” which means that despite what is directly in front of us, at this moment, we are looking beyond at our greater glory.
Imagine yourself as a football quarterback. Directly in front of you are defenders hoping to keep you from throwing the ball, but way down the field is an open receiver waiting to receive the ball and score, the greater glory. Sometimes in this process, the quarterback is knocked down by the defenders, but his eyes as he falls to the ground are on that receiver. When he sees the catch, he pops up and runs to congratulate his teammate.
Obviously, we are not NFL quarterbacks, but when we are being challenged by the onslaught of danger and evil, we have God by our side, showing us the way. If we can trust God, we can focus on the glory in the distance. Even when the storms knock us from our feet, God is there to lift us up and even carry us until we can regain our footing.
God will provide our path and we must simply choose to trust and obey God’s commandments. All who choose God will be protected. “Keep Your Eyes on the Prize, Hold On.” 1 CORINTHIANS 9:24 NIV 24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? So run in such a way as to get the prize. Set your eyes on God! Run to win. Win what? The true prize is to know God intimately and be His friend.
Loving and Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. We come to you again struggling with trusting You. Without Your love and patience, we could not endure. Thank You! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Today, I will focus my thoughts on God’s word instead of my worries.
Keep Your Eyes on the Prize! Pastor Liz
