Morning Devotional 041922 Following the Light

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

April 18, 2022

Read Luke 8:16-18

16 “No one lights a lamp and then covers it with a bowl or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on top of a lampstand so that those who enter can see the light. 17 Nothing is hidden that won’t be exposed. Nor is anything concealed that won’t be made known and brought to the light. 18 Therefore, listen carefully. Those who have will receive more, but as for those who don’t have, even what they seem to have will be taken away from them.”

Good Morning, Let your light shine brightly!

Jesus is the light of the world! Always shining as a beacon of hope.

Have you ever been lost? I’m sure that most of us have. I have always found that being lost at night is scarier than being lost in the daytime. When I’m lost during the day, I can look around and find signs to lead me on my way. At night, I lose my sense of direction and the landmarks that dot my journey are harder to find. As I try to move to my destination, I become more and more anxious. I begin to think, “Did I miss my turn?” or “I don’t remember it taking this long.” Our minds can become confused in the darkness and even a path we’ve traveled many times begins to seem fraught with danger at every turn.

As we travel on our journey of life, our faith journey, we have similar experiences. When we are in the light of Jesus, even when we feel lost we can find the signs to lead us back to Jesus. When we turn away from Jesus, we begin to lose our sense of spiritual direction. Sometimes we wander from our path and with the light of Jesus behind us, we become lost. The signs that we find in the darkness seem to be helpful, but when we have committed ourselves to that new path we find that we are following a way rooted in evil. The further we travel into the darkness, the more lost we become.

The light of Jesus is shining brightly for all who are searching. Jesus will come and find all who call Him. No matter how lost we become and how seduced we are by evil, Jesus is ready to find us and lead us home. Seek the light and be saved.

Loving and Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. Jesus is our light! Help us continue towards that light each moment. Thank You! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: The light of Jesus’ love guides me on my way.
