Morning Devotional 042224 Oh My! Did you See That?

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  April 22, 2024

Psalm 19:1-4

1 Heaven is declaring God’s glory; the sky is proclaiming his handiwork. 2 One day gushes the news to the next, and one night informs another what needs to be known. 3 Of course, there’s no speech, no words their voices can’t be heard 4 but their sound extends throughout the world; their words reach the ends of the earth. God has made a tent in heaven for the sun.

Good Morning! All things bright and beautiful, the Lord God made them all!

I enjoy observing God’s majesty that surrounds me. If I were asked to choose my favorite part of nature, I would be unable to do so. I have been blessed to live or spend significant time in different parts of our country: the flat land of Indiana, the coastal areas of Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida, and the Adirondack and Blue Ridge Mountains. Each area has its own special features that are accentuated by the seasons and daily transitions from day to night.

I’ve shared before my fascination with sunrises and sunsets, and each of the places I mentioned has afforded me the opportunity to view them in a myriad of settings. Of course, I can spend hours viewing the night sky and its countless number of stars. For most of my life, I have lived where nighttime has minimal ambient light so I have been able to see and gaze at the constellations.

I realize that some people love living in the city and discovering God’s presence within their cityscape, but I can’t imagine the absence of stars, mountains, oceans, and streams. As I sit and watch the birds playing outside my window and see the simple blooms of the Dogwood trees, I thank God for my blessings.

I can’t fathom how God our Creator put together all the pieces to create the beautiful world in which we live. We are to enjoy and thank God for the opportunity to share this space together.

Gracious God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. You have surrounded us with such beauty. Help us slow down and notice it all from the tiniest insect to the highest mountain. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: The beauty of God’s creation is all around me.

Enjoy God’s handiwork! Pastor Liz
