Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
April 26, 2026
Psalm 68:4-10
4 Sing to God! Sing praises to his name! Exalt the one who rides the clouds! The LORD is his name. Celebrate before him! 5 Father of orphans and defender of widows is God in his holy habitation. 6 God settles the lonely in their homes; he sets prisoners free with happiness, but the rebellious dwell in a parched land. 7 When you went forth before your people, God, when you marched through the wasteland, Selah 8 the earth shook! Yes, heaven poured down before God, the one from Sinai before God, the God of Israel! 9 You showered down abundant rain, God; when your inheritance grew weary, you restored it yourself, 10 and your creatures settled in it. In your goodness,
God, you provided for the poor.
Good Morning! Sing praise to God!
It seems natural to sing praise to God when all is well, but it is not so easy when things aren’t going as we want. When our lives feel broken, when things are hard, when we are in pain, our first thought might not be praising God.
Praising God comes from trusting God. Trusting that no matter how bad things are in this moment, that God will be with us and see us through our present challenges. Building trust in the dark times is hard because we are blinded by the doom and gloom that darkens our hearts.
Building trust takes time. We begin by building a relationship with God. We talk to God and share our thoughts, concerns, joys, and grief. Little by little we see that we can’t scare or chase God away. God is with us, no matter what.
We see God with us in our good times, and then we see God helping us through challenges. With each challenge that God helps us overcome, our trust and faith grow. When that insurmountable challenge comes, we find comfort in knowing that God never abandons us and will be with us regardless.
Through the death and resurrection of Christ, we know that God has power over death. Our earthly deaths are not the end of the story. We rise to be with God in paradise. With such power, our earthly challenges pale in comparison. Our awesome God loves us and is with us from our beginning, through our lives, and is waiting to welcome us to our new lives when that time comes. Amen.
God of Wisdom, you bless us abundantly! You care for us and lead us forward each day. Thank you. We love you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
Thought for the day: God loves and protects us.
Trust God! Pastor Liz
