Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
May 1, 2025
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
1 There’s a season for everything and a time for every matter under the heavens: 2 a time for giving birth and a time for dying, a time for planting and a time for uprooting what was planted, 3 a time for killing and a time for healing, a time for tearing down and a time for building up, 4 a time for crying and a time for laughing, a time for mourning and a time for dancing, 5 a time for throwing stones and a time for gathering stones, a time for embracing and a time for avoiding embraces, 6 a time for searching and a time for losing, a time for keeping and a time for throwing away, 7 a time for tearing and a time for repairing, a time for keeping silent and a time for speaking, 8 a time for loving and a time for hating, a time for war and a time for peace.
Good Morning. Wake up and bless the Lord!
Each day is a gift from God! Along our faith journey, we encounter and engage with many people and experiences. Some are wonderful and some are challenges, but all will provide us with opportunities to love God and love one another.
It is amazing to meet new people and discover the commonalities you share. I stretched myself and chose to sit among clergy members whom I did not previously know. By the time each session ended, we had shared and listened to each other’s stories.
Despite our different locations and faith journeys, we are all children of God. As I sit waiting for my flight home, I recall a statement that reminds me that we all have value, even those who view the world through different lenses.
“Every pilot knows that for the plane to fly, you need both the left and right wings to be intact. It is easy to connect with those who are similar to us, but without forming relationships with those who differ, our planes will remain on the ground.
Loving Lord, Maker of all things! You are an awesome God who is always present. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God is present in all times and spaces.
