Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
May 11, 2024
2 Timothy 3:14-17
14 But you must continue with the things you have learned and found convincing. You know who taught you. 15 Since childhood you have known the holy scriptures that help you to be wise in a way that leads to salvation through faith that is in Christ Jesus. 16 Every scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for showing mistakes, for correcting, and for training character, 17 so that the person who belongs to God can be equipped to do everything that is good.
Good Morning! It’s a beautiful day! Make it special!
Do you remember trying to build towers out of blocks? You begin with a set number of blocks. If you use most of your blocks for the base, then your tower is not very tall. When you set one on top of the other, you build a tall, but unsteady tower that topples easily. Somewhere in your process you discover a plan to build a tower with a strong base with enough remaining blocks to make it stand tall.
If we spend all our time and energy reading, studying, and praying to build the foundation of our faith, we have little energy left to serve God. If we receive minimal instruction, our tower comes crashing down because our foundation is weak. In our special time with God, we receive training and instructions. We then take what we have learned and use it to go out and serve our neighbors. Sometimes, the blocks at the top of our tower fall down, and we realize that we need a stronger foundation.
Our time with God renews and revitalizes us daily.
Affirming God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. We are anxious to follow your teachings, but we need to check in and renew our strength. Thank you for always being by our side. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: When we spend time with God, we receive everything we need to grow in faith.
Build a strong foundation and grow! Pastor Liz
