Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

May 11, 2026

Revelation 22:16-17

16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to bear witness to all of you about these things for the churches. I’m the root and descendant of David, the bright morning star. 17 The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ Let the one who hears say, ‘Come!’ And let the one who is thirsty come! Let the one who wishes receive life-giving water as a gift.”

Good Morning! Come!

As I sit and watch the life-giving rain this morning, I consider the words of today’s passage. We are experiencing a time of drought. Our land is parched and too weary to provide the energy to grow this season’s crops. We pray that the forecasted rain will renew and replenish the land.

We, God’s children, are also living in a time of drought. Our souls are weary and parched. There are so many who can not hear the invitation to “come.” Others refuse to listen to the invitation.

God offers the gift of life-giving freely. When we receive and answer the invitation, we are to share it with everyone we meet. It is not our role to force the gift upon others, but simply to offer it. For those who wish to receive and accept the gift, God will provide what is needed.

He said: ‘Freely, freely, you have received,

Freely, freely give;

Go in My name, and because you believe

Others will know that I live.’

God of Wisdom, you bless us abundantly! Help us to hear your invitation clearly. We need your life-giving water. Thank you for waiting for us to admit our need. Thank you. We love you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.

Thought for the day: God’s love, grace, and mercy are freely given, freely received!

In the sharing comes the blessing!  Pastor Liz
