Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
May 18, 2024
Psalm 16:7-11
7 I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. 8 I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. 9 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices my body also will rest secure, 10 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see decay. 11 You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
Good Morning! God fills us with joy!
Finding the path of life is an interesting excursion. Too many times, I have found myself firmly on one path but feeling pulled to another. As a teacher, I worked hard to find my niche. Because of our ministry, I moved to different school divisions, so that might explain some of that. But if I discount the moves, I still had a lot of searching that seemed to toss me back and forth.
I began with the obvious choice of being a music teacher. Music has been, is, and will always be within me, but as a teacher I discovered I was still searching. I completed additional schooling that allowed me to branch into different areas of teaching: reading, gifted education, and STEM, but I was still left seeking my path.
When God called me to preach the word, it was a surprising and daunting revelation. The path of being a pastor was never a visible one on my horizon, but suddenly, a new, uncharted path appeared before me, beckoning me to explore it.
Since answering my call, I feel that this is my path, and there is great comfort in that. Obviously, I am growing and maturing into my call, but the continuous need to find my way has faded away.
11 You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
Affirming God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. You reveal our paths as we are ready to receive them. Through Christ, we are redeemed. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Jesus is the source and perfector of our faith.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet! Pastor Liz
