Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
May 19, 2025
Psalm 130:1-8
1 I cry out to you from the depths, LORD 2 my Lord, listen to my voice! Let your ears pay close attention to my request for mercy! 3 If you kept track of sins, LORD my Lord, who would stand a chance? 4 But forgiveness is with you that’s why you are honored. 5 I hope, LORD. My whole being hopes, and I wait for God’s promise. 6 My whole being waits for my Lord more than the night watch waits for morning; yes, more than the night watch waits for morning! 7 Israel, wait for the LORD! Because faithful love is with the LORD; because great redemption is with our God! 8 He is the one who will redeem Israel from all its sin.
Good Morning! Thanks be to our merciful God!
Without God, we are nothing. By God’s grace, we are forgiven our sins, and our slate is wiped clean.
I am amazed at the concept of total forgiveness. As humans, we forgive, but we aren’t very good at forgetting. At some point, someone we have forgiven does something that we don’t like, and the thing for which we have forgiven them comes flying back to our mind.
With God, those things for which we are forgiven are gone and will never be addressed again. True love does not record and tally our wrongs. Praise be to God!
In our times of despair, God is there to answer when we call, so that we will not lose hope as we wait.
Loving Lord, Maker of all things! Instead of focusing on our flaws, you see our potential. Without you, we remain weak, but through you, we are strong. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Our spirit is nourished when we reflect on God’s word and spend time in prayer.
Forgiven in our imperfection! Pastor Liz
