Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
May 24, 2025
Luke 11:9-13
9 And I tell you: Ask and you will receive. Seek and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 Everyone who asks, receives. Whoever seeks, finds. To everyone who knocks, the door is opened. 11 “Which father among you would give a snake to your child if the child asked for a fish? 12 If a child asked for an egg, what father would give the child a scorpion? 13 If you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”
Good Morning! Seek ye first the kingdom of God!
Christ calls us to action. Nothing can happen without some initiation of movement. We’re back to Isaac Newton’s Laws of Motion. For an object to move, some force must be applied to it. It can be as simple as gravity pulling an apple to the ground. We could also consider potential (the energy stored) vs. kinetic (the energy in action) energy. Sorry for my mini-science lesson!
Back to our call to action. We receive the Holy Spirit during our baptism, and through such, we have the potential power to share Christ with the world. This power sits in wait until we choose to take action. If we sit, waiting for God to take the first step, the power remains unused, but if we step out in faith, the power immediately becomes activated and starts generating more power with each additional step.
If no one asks, no one receives. If no one seeks, nothing will be found. If no one knocks, the door will never be opened. Ask, Seek, Knock: Each of these actions has a reciprocal response that lies waiting for someone to initiate the movement.
Imagine the glory we will miss if we don’t ask questions, seek wisdom, and knock to show we would like to come in. Be the force that starts the reaction!
Loving Lord, Maker of all things! Thank you for our infinite blessings. Nudge us when we sit and wait for you to take the first step. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God blesses us beyond our understanding!
