Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
May 25, 2025
Ephesians 6:14-15
14 So stand with the belt of truth around your waist, justice as your breastplate, 15 and put shoes on your feet so that you are ready to spread the good news of peace.
Good Morning! Rejoice and be glad!
What does our appearance say about who we are? Our clothing choices may indicate our sense of fashion, but this can be hidden in professions that require uniforms. Some will adorn their uniform with something that reveals a piece of themselves. I remember a scene from some movie where the main character was required to wear bling with her uniform. It wasn’t her choice, but a company mandate.
Uniforms often define our role in society. For example, those in firefighter’s gear will never be mistaken for a doctor preparing for surgery. Likewise, we have certain expectations that set the tone for certain settings. Imagine if the courtroom judge came in dressed as a clown.
Paul is using clothing items metaphorically when he speaks of the belt of truth and the breastplate of justice. However, think of the impact we could make on the world if our outward appearance defined us as children of God. If we exuded the love, peace, hope, truth, righteousness, and joy with which Jesus blesses us.
Whether we are speaking of our inward or outward persona, we are called to be the face of Christ for the world. How will others know that we are those God sets apart? They will know we are Christians by our love! We must not be afraid to let the world know that God loves us and we are prepared to share this love with the world.
Loving Lord, Maker of all things! You call us, but sometimes we hide the gifts that you give us. Help us be the face of Christ for the world. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Who do others say that we are?
Cover yourself in Christ’s love! Pastor Liz
