Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

Matthew 10:26-31

26 “Therefore, don’t be afraid of those people because nothing is hidden that won’t be revealed, and nothing secret that won’t be brought out into the open. 27 What I say to you in the darkness, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered, announce from the rooftops. 28 Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body but can’t kill the soul. Instead, be afraid of the one who can destroy both body and soul in hell. 29 Aren’t two sparrows sold for a small coin? But not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father knowing about it already. 30 Even the hairs of your head are all counted. 31 Don’t be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows.

Good Morning! God is watching and knows our needs!

His eye is on the sparrow,And I know He watches me.I sing because I’m happy—I sing because I’m free—For His eye is on the sparrow,And I know He watches me.

Do you recall a moment when you watched a young child attempt something for the first time? You wanted to jump in and help, but you knew they had to try it on their own. We anxiously watch and gasp as they struggle, but we are thrilled when they succeed. I think of a mother bird pushing her babies out of the nest so they could learn to fly. 

I saw a cute video of a dog waiting for his “child” to get off the bus. As soon as the dog caught a glimpse of the little girl, the dog’s tail started wagging. As she came down the steps, the dog was quickly by her side, waiting for hugs. I tell you this to share that there was someone behind the camera who was watching in silence as this beautiful greeting transpired. The camera person was there to assist if the little girl or the dog needed help or were in danger. Because all was well, the camera person was able to delight in the moment of love between a child and her pet. 

God patiently watches and waits! When all is well, God delights in our discoveries and beautiful moments. When we are in need, God is by our side, providing love and support, so that we may endure our challenges. God allows us to be free so that we may spread our wings and soar as we sing praise to God’s name. 

Giving Lord, who blesses us abundantly! Thank you for making us worthy of your love.  Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
