Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

June 3, 2025

Psalm 126:1-6

1 When the LORD changed Zion’s circumstances for the better, it was like we had been dreaming. 2 Our mouths were suddenly filled with laughter; our tongues were filled with joyful shouts. It was even said, at that time, among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them!” 3 Yes, the LORD has done great things for us, and we are overjoyed. 4 LORD, change our circumstances for the better, like dry streams in the desert waste! 5 Let those who plant with tears reap the harvest with joyful shouts. 6 Let those who go out, crying and carrying their seed, come home with joyful shouts, carrying bales of grain!

Good Morning! Look and see what the Lord has done!

Rejoice and be glad! The Lord abundantly blesses us in all things. Without God, we live like those in a wasteland filled with darkness. This does not mean we won’t have challenges in our lives, but that by God’s grace we can overcome our struggles.

Sometimes, it's all about perspective. If we go looking for problems, it is likely that that is what we will find lurking around every corner. However, if we believe that goodness is waiting to be revealed, we will see God’s beauty surrounding us.

Imagine walking through a rundown neighborhood. Do we focus on the decay of the crumbling parking lot, or do we see a lone flower protruding through the cracked pavement?

We are blessed because God looks past our aging bodies and our cynical thoughts, seeking the goodness that He placed within us before we were even formed. When we feel lost and weary, those who turn to God will find rest and peace. Let us trust in God so that laughter may fill our mouths and shouts of joy will come from our tongues.

Giving Lord, who blesses us abundantly! Help us focus on seeking the goodness that lies hidden within each of your children. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: God sees beauty even in our lost, weary selves.

Seek goodness! Pastor Liz
