Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
June 7, 2025
Acts of the Apostles 12:1-4
1 Paul and Silas journeyed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, then came to Thessalonica, where there was a Jewish synagogue. 2 As was Paul’s custom, he entered the synagogue and for three Sabbaths interacted with them on the basis of the scriptures. 3 Through his interpretation of the scriptures, he demonstrated that the Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead. He declared, “This Jesus whom I proclaim to you is the Christ.” 4 Some were convinced and joined Paul and Silas, including a larger number of Greek God-worshippers and quite a few prominent women.
Good Morning! God makes everything new!
Changing people's mindsets is challenging. Even when things are less than good, most would rather keep things the same than risk something new. The message of Paul and Silas was totally foreign to many of the Greeks to whom they were speaking. Additionally, this time and place were filled with false prophets who were proclaiming to be the ones with the answers.
It appears that resistance to change is inherent in our human nature. God created us in his image and blessed us with the ability to consider and discern truth from everything that we encounter. The problem is that part of our resilience is the need to be in control. When we don’t like what is happening, we want to take our “ball” and go home. We close our minds to the words of change that others share.
Today, and every day, is a day of new beginnings. When we entrust the big picture to God, we will be blessed. As has been said so many times, let go and let God! Everything else will be okay!
Giving Lord, you bless us abundantly! Help us let go of our preconceived notions and focus on your word. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God cares and provides for his children!
God has it! Pastor Liz
