Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  June 9, 2024

Isaiah 43:18-21

18 Don’t remember the prior things; don’t ponder ancient history. 19 Look! I’m doing a new thing; now it sprouts up; don’t you recognize it? I’m making a way in the desert, paths in the wilderness. 20 The beasts of the field, the jackals and ostriches, will honor me, because I have put water in the desert and streams in the wilderness to give water to my people, my chosen ones, 21 this people whom I formed for myself, who will recount my praise.

Good Morning! Look for the good around you!

I am fascinated when I see abandoned houses on an old country road. I try to imagine the story of those who once lived there. Sometimes, it looks like one day, the occupants just left and never came back. Where did they go? Why did they leave?

Over time, the house deteriorates, and the walls begin to collapse, but you see a patch of daffodils that someone lovingly planted. Trees and plants begin to grow within the structure, creating a new landscape among the rotting boards.

Imagine a long-lost family member who happens to return to the place after a long absence. The manmade things will likely be unrecognizable or gone, but those made by God will be standing strongly among the ruins.

Through God, we find beauty among the ruins of our lives. Sing praise to God!

Nurturing God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. When we abandon things, you use them to create a new beginning. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: In each new season, God makes all things new.

Let God grow within you to create new life! Pastor Liz
