Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
June 15, 2024
1 John 3:1-3
1 See what kind of love the Father has given to us in that we should be called God’s children, and that is what we are! Because the world didn’t recognize him, it doesn’t recognize us. 2 Dear friends, now we are God’s children, and it hasn’t yet appeared what we will be. We know that when he appears we will be like him because we’ll see him as he is. 3 And all who have this hope in him purify themselves even as he is pure.
Good Morning! God’s still working on us!
When a child is born, people love to look at them and look for features that resemble their parents. We say things like, “Oh, he has his mother’s eyes, or Look! She has her mother’s smile.” What I have discovered in my own children is that some of our features take time to develop, and as they age, I discover new ways they resemble me and their father.
Let’s delve deeper into our spiritual gifts. Just as we see our physical features in our children, can we see our spiritual qualities in them? Are they mirrors of our kindness and love? Do they act out of duty, or is their behavior a reflection of their devotion to God?
We are children of God and, as such, heirs of God’s kingdom. What do others see when they look at us? We are called to be the face of Christ for the world. Do we manifest love, joy, mercy, kindness, gentleness, hope, and peace? Others should know we are Christians by these qualities that we exude.
Creator God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. You abundantly bless us. Help us to share these gifts with all we meet. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Look in the mirror and see how others see you.
Let your gifts be evident to others! Pastor Liz
