Morning Devotional 061724 In God's Hands

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  June 17, 2024

Proverbs 3:5-10

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; don’t rely on your own intelligence. 6 Know him in all your paths, and he will keep your ways straight. 7 Don’t consider yourself wise. Fear the LORD and turn away from evil. 8 Then your body will be healthy and your bones strengthened. 9 Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the first of all your crops. 10 Then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will burst with wine.

Good Morning! Trust in the Lord with all your heart!

It sounds so simple, yet placing our full trust in God is so hard. It is especially hard for those of us with that type “A” personality. We consciously decide to do this and do okay for a while. Then, we start to try to take control. We see something we would do differently (better), and we “fix” the process. Before we know it, we are “in charge!”

Verse 7 says, “Don’t consider yourself wise.” Again, we work for years to learn and grow in wisdom, so how do we use our wisdom to allow us to trust God?

Most of us have decided to learn a new skill. At first, we make many mistakes, which is a necessary part of the learning process. Gradually, we hone our skills and become good or even great. Then we get cocky and think, “I’ve got this.” This is when we get in trouble. Just about when we think we need no help, something breaks, and the walls come tumbling down.

To trust in the Lord with all your heart means that we have reached a level of wisdom that allows us to realize that God is in charge and that no matter how good we are, we need God to realize our full potential and find our way.

Creator God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. We get cocky and think we know how to do life! Thank you for helping us pick up the pieces of our broken lives. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: God is with us in good and bad times to help us find our way.

Seek the wisdom of God’s truth! Pastor Liz
