Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  June 28, 2024

2 Corinthians 1:3-7

3 May the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ be blessed! He is the compassionate Father and God of all comfort. 4 He’s the one who comforts us in all our trouble so that we can comfort other people who are in every kind of trouble. We offer the same comfort that we ourselves received from God. 5 That is because we receive so much comfort through Christ in the same way that we share so many of Christ’s sufferings. 6 So if we have trouble, it is to bring you comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, it is to bring you comfort from the experience of endurance while you go through the same sufferings that we also suffer. 7 Our hope for you is certain, because we know that as you are partners in suffering, so also you are partners in comfort.

Good Morning! We find comfort through Christ!

When I find comfort, I am filled with peace. Christ promises peace to those who follow him. “Come unto me, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28: “My peace I give to you.” John 14:27. The New Testament contains many such verses, so why aren’t we all living a life filled with peace and rest?

We all struggle to let go of control and resist the vulnerability that precipitates the peace of Christ. But in this struggle, we find understanding and growth. Too many times I have given a struggle to God before going to bed, and the next morning, I take it back and continue my journey on the struggle bus.

I read a plaque with these words of wisdom: “God is still writing your story; quit trying to steal the pen. Trust the author.” If only we could do this! I have often said to myself and others, during times of struggle, to let go and let God. When our hearts are weary and heavy laden, Christ is waiting to take our burdens.

Creator God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. Oh, what a silly lot of people we are. We have the cheat sheet but struggle to read and believe it. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: We find peace when we give our struggles to Christ.
