Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
July 5, 2025
Colossians 3:12-17
12 Therefore, as God’s choice, holy and loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Be tolerant with each other and, if someone has a complaint against anyone, forgive each other. As the Lord forgave you, so also forgive each other. 14 And over all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. 15 The peace of Christ must control your hearts—a peace into which you were called in one body. And be thankful people. 16 The word of Christ must live in you richly. Teach and warn each other with all wisdom by singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 Whatever you do, whether in speech or action, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus and give thanks to God the Father through him.
Good Morning! Blessed be the name of the Lord
Love is the perfect bond of unity. Paul’s words are timeless. If you had never read the Bible or even been introduced to Christ, you could imagine these words being written today by someone trying to transform the world into a better place in 2025.
Paul loves lists, so let’s look at his 'Live a Holy Life' to-do list.
Put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience
Be tolerant and forgive each other
Put on love
Let the peace of Christ control your hearts
Be thankful
Foster Christ’s words within you
Teach and support each other
Sing to God with gratitude in your hearts
Do all you do in the name of Christ
Give thanks to God the Father through Christ
Now, look back over the past week or month. How did you do in completing this forever list? It’s okay to admit your failings because Christ forgives us. In fact, Christ embodies this “Live a Holy Life” checklist every day with every person forevermore. Christ calls us to join him on his quest to make this list the mantra of the world.
Let’s unite and make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
Giving Lord, you bless us abundantly! We read the words and shake our heads in agreement. Let us accept this list and go out as you call us to do. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Be imitators of Christ
Why? Because God first loved us! Pastor Liz
