Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
July 14, 2024
Psalm 121:1-8
1 I raise my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth. 3 God won’t let your foot slip. Your protector won’t fall asleep on the job. 4 No! Israel’s protector never sleeps or rests! 5 The LORD is your protector; the LORD is your shade right beside you. 6 The sun won’t strike you during the day; neither will the moon at night. 7 The LORD will protect you from all evil; God will protect your very life. 8 The LORD will protect you on your journeys whether going or coming from now until forever from now.
Good Morning! Take time to be holy!
Our God is great! He, our Creator, promises to be with us always. As we journey through life, we encounter many paths, some smooth and some bumpy. But remember, God is always by our side, ready to lend a helping hand when we need it.
My mom and dad were born in the hills of Kentucky, but when I was a child, we moved to the flat lands of Indiana. Whenever we would return to their hometown to visit, I remember there was a place when the mountains (hills) first became visible. Each time we reached this point, my parents contentedly sighed in unison. They found comfort in the mountains where they were raised.
During the last fifteen years, I have been blessed to call the mountains of Virginia home, and I have learned to understand the comfort my parents found in them. The mountains are a constant reminder of God’s majesty. I go to the hills to get closer to God. During times of despair, I get in my Mustang, put down the top, and glide along the Skyline Drive with God as my co-pilot. This is my taste of heaven on earth.
1 I raise my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth.
Protector God, You bless us each day by your constant presence. You are waiting in the wings, encouraging us to live our lives according to your will. When we stumble, your hand steadies us on our journey. When we fall, you pick us up and set us straight. We thank you. In the name of Jesus, Amen
Thought for the day: The Lord is always within reach.
Lift your eyes and find the comfort you seek! Pastor Liz
