Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

July 19, 2022

Read 2 Thessalonians 2:13-16

13 But we always must thank God for you, brothers and sisters who are loved by God. This is because he chose you from the beginning to be the first crop of the harvest. This brought salvation, through your dedication to God by the Spirit and through your belief in the truth. 14 God called all of you through our good news so you could possess the honor of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold on to the traditions we taught you, whether we taught you in person or through our letter. 16 Our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father loved us and through grace gave us eternal comfort and a good hope.

Good morning! This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it!

We are called by God to share the Good News through our thoughts, words, and actions. Because we are chosen as bearers of the truth, we must stand fast to all that we have been taught through the reading of Scripture, praying, and living in a relationship with God. As believers, we are blessed with the gift of salvation through the death and resurrection of our Savior.

When we are baptized and proclaim our faith the Holy Spirit enters us and begins our transformation so that we may boldly go and make disciples of the world. Each day provides us with new opportunities to share our blessings with those who are in need. As a response to our abundant gifts and blessings, Christ taught us to share all that we have because each time we share our gifts they multiply and grow. The beauty of God’s love begins to take root and fill our lives.

If every believer would share the gifts they possess with even one person in need, the world would soon be filled with the love of Christ. Paul tells us to stand firm in what we have been taught and mirror the glory of Christ so that we might experience the peace, hope, grace, love, and joy available to us.

25 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:25-27 NIV)

Loving and Caring God, Thank You for loving us. We are so blessed. May we work to do a better job sharing our gifts so that all who are ready might join the fellowship of faith. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: My faith can help others to flourish.
