Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

July 24, 2023

Luke 8:22-25

22 One day, Jesus and his disciples boarded a boat. He said to them, “Let’s cross over to the other side of the lake.” So they set sail. 23 While they were sailing, he fell asleep. Gale-force winds swept down on the lake. The boat was filling up with water and they were in danger. 24 So they went and woke Jesus, shouting, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” But he got up and gave orders to the wind and the violent waves. The storm died down, and it was calm. 25 He said to his disciples, “Where is your faith?” Filled with awe and wonder, they said to each other, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him!”

Good Morning, Turn your eyes upon Jesus!

Regardless of where you live, weather events are common in that area, and watching the patterns that come with each season is fascinating. Some storms you can see forming for hours, while others pop up in a minute. Likewise, some storms last for several hours or even days, while others are just a few minutes.

The storms of our lives follow this pattern as well. Some build over a long time, while others come out of nowhere. We have the storms that linger and the storms that pass quickly. Whatever storms we face, Jesus is with us. Just like with the disciples in the boat, Jesus is waiting to save and protect us when we call out to him.

Storms are inevitable whether we are talking about the weather or our lives. It makes sense to be prepared for those storms. Jesus is waiting to provide us strength and shelter so that we may endure whatever storms may be raging around us.

Loving God, We thank you! You bless us each day. Storms scare us and cause us to panic! Help us remember that you are always with us! Thank you! In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Jesus anticipates my needs and will help me through any storm.

In the midst of the storm, praise God! Pastor Liz
