Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
July 25, 2024
Matthew 18:1-5
1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 Then he called a little child over to sit among the disciples, 3 and said, “I assure you that if you don’t turn your lives around and become like this little child, you will definitely not enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Those who humble themselves like this little child will be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.
Good Morning! Jesus loves the little children!
We can learn much from children. They see something beautiful and say, “Ahh!” They meet someone and think, “Friend!” They hear music and dance.
As adults, we have been conditioned to general assumptions. When we see something beautiful, we think, “Wow! That must be expensive!” We look for flaws or try to verify the authenticity of the object. When we meet someone, we think, “Danger!” or “What do they want from me?” When we hear music, we don’t dance because someone might be watching. The sad thing is, we might be too busy to even notice the music is playing.
Unlike adults, children freely respond and react to everything around them. They see the smallest bugs crawling on the ground. They hear the tinkle of a bell and smile. In the simplest things, they find joy. As children, we see the awe and wonder of God’s creation without worrying how such a thing is possible.
Jesus said, “Let the little children come unto me for they belong to the kingdom of heaven.” We see the way to glory only when we let go of our grown-up ways and cynicism. May God bless the inner child within us.
Praise Him, praise Him, all ye little children,
God is love, God is love;
Praise Him, praise Him, all ye little children,
God is love, God is love.
Love Him, love Him, all ye little children,
God is love, God is love;
Love Him, love Him, all ye little children,
God is love, God is love.
Thank Him, thank Him, all ye little children,
God is love, God is love;
Thank Him, thank Him, all ye little children,
God is love, God is love
Loving God, Thank you for creating us. We try to make everything too complicated. Help us see that God is love, and everything else will be okay. Thank you for loving us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: It is a joy to spend time with God.
God is Love! Pastor Liz
