Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

Psalm 73:23-26
23 Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. 24 You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. 25 Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Good Morning! God is our sure foundation!
This is a Psalm of Lament: It is written by the prophet Asaph, not David. Asaph has doubts and is struggling with fear of the unknown.
Most of us struggle with a fear of the unknown at some point (or many points) in our lives. During those times, I have said, “I just want to know, and then I can deal with it, good or bad.” I think of those struggling with undiagnosed illnesses or conditions. Even the doctors can’t create a plan until they know what it is.
In those times, it is hard, but we need to put our trust in God. God promises to be with us always, guide us through our struggles, and take us to glory when our time on earth is over.
Our innate desire to take control causes anxiety about the unknown. In Matthew 6:34, Jesus tells us, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Christian singer Twila Paris captures what it means to trust God in these lyrics:
I will trust You, Lord, when I don't know why.
I will trust You, Lord, till the day I die.
I will trust You, Lord, when I'm blind with pain!
You were God before, and You'll never change.
I will trust You.
Loving God, Thank you for creating us. We struggle with trust because we don’t want to let go of control. Give us the courage to step out in faith when we can’t see what is before us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Do not fear the unknown because God is with us!
Trust the God who loves you! Pastor Liz
