Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

August 9, 2025

Psalm 20:1-9

1 I pray that the LORD answers you whenever you are in trouble. Let the name of Jacob’s God protect you. 2 Let God send help to you from the sanctuary and support you from Zion. 3 Let God recall your many grain offerings; let him savor your entirely burned offerings. Selah 4 Let God grant what is in your heart and fulfill all your plans. 5 Then we will rejoice that you’ve been helped. We will fly our flags in the name of our God. Let the LORD fulfill all your requests! 6 Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed one; God answers his anointed one from his heavenly sanctuary, answering with mighty acts of salvation achieved by his strong hand. 7 Some people trust in chariots, others in horses; but we praise the LORD’s name. 8 They will collapse and fall, but we will stand up straight and strong. 9 LORD, save the king! Let him answer us when we cry out!

Good Morning! Love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength!

Today is a good day to stop and ask, “How is it with your soul?” All who are alive have good and bad days, even good and bad moments. These are often unavoidable, and though we shouldn’t dwell on the possibility of those bad things that might happen, we must recognize that they will come, often at what seems to be the worst possible moment.

These inevitable challenges can be as basic as noticing a big spot on your shirt just as you prepare to stand in front of a group to share information, or discovering that an important document has disappeared or been erased. Of course, there are many bigger challenges we face, but it is good to examine and create plans of action using the smaller, more manageable situations that pop up regularly.

The first word or action that must be employed in these moments is TRUST. In what or whom do we place our trust? First, we must be willing to place our trust and believe that it will not be violated. If we have done all that we can by planning and implementing, then we must trust in the groundwork and foundation we have laid. However, if our foundation is poorly constructed, then our whole structure may come tumbling down.

The great news for us this morning is that God has the ultimate plan in place. For those who build their foundation on God and choose to bow down and give their lives to Christ, God is there in all things, in all times. As we read the Bible, we see and learn how those who place their trust in God are always redeemed.

In what or whom do we place our trust? God!

Why? Because God loves us forever and always.

Giving Lord, you bless us abundantly! O God, in every moment, you are with us.

When we rise, when we lie down, you are there. When we feel shaky, and when we are confident, you are with us. Despite your presence, we struggle to let go of control and trust you. Thank you for giving us time to grow! Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Trust God today and every day.
