Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
August 17, 2025
Proverbs 4:20-27
20 My son, pay attention to my words. Bend your ear to my speech. 21 Don’t let them slip from your sight. Guard them in your mind. 22 They are life to those who find them, and healing for their entire body. 23 More than anything you guard, protect your mind, for life flows from it. 24 Have nothing to do with a corrupt mouth; keep devious lips far from you. 25 Focus your eyes straight ahead; keep your gaze on what is in front of you. 26 Watch your feet on the way, and all your paths will be secure. 27 Don’t deviate a bit to the right or the left; turn your feet away from evil.
Good Morning! Turn your eyes upon Jesus.
It struck me this morning that it is God’s words that we shouldn’t let slip from our sight, and we must guard them with our minds. God’s words are life to those who find them.
Occasionally, I think about what life is like for those who do not read the Bible or believe in God. It is hard to imagine my life without God. John tells us that life without God is living in darkness. In the winter, when the hours of sunshine are limited, I find that I have less energy because the source of my happiness is restricted. I know that I have thought or even said aloud, I just need to see the sun.
I live each day believing in the hope for tomorrow because God promises us eternal life. Without God, you live a life without the source of living water that quenches our thirst. Non-believers are at the mercy of evil and have no one to turn to in times of despair. Then one day, you die and life is over. Believers live knowing that our best life is yet to come. God’s words are life to those who find them.
Giving Lord, you bless us abundantly! O Lord, we are not worthy of your love, but you invite us into a relationship with you through your Word and prayer. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Keep your eyes on Jesus by praying and studying the Bible.
Look full in the wonderful face of Jesus! Pastor Liz
