Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room
August 18, 2021
Read Psalm 25:1-6
1 I offer my life to you, LORD. 2 My God, I trust you. Please don’t let me be put to shame! Don’t let my enemies rejoice over me! 3 For that matter, don’t let anyone who hopes in you be put to shame; instead, let those who are treacherous without excuse be put to shame. 4 Make your ways known to me, LORD; teach me your paths. 5 Lead me in your truth—teach it to me because you are the God who saves me. I put my hope in you all day long. 6 LORD, remember your compassion and faithful love they are forever!
Good Morning! God loves each of us! Amen!
This morning I took a few minutes to experience the wind moving in the trees. This morning the breeze was gentle, but sometimes the wind is a mighty force able to move mountains, yet other times the wind is barely negligible. Think about moving against the wind like putting your hand outside the car window when we were kids to feel the force of the wind against our hand. Think about the images of people unable to stand upright during hurricane force winds. Now think about the gentle or negligible winds through which we can easily move in any direction.
I thought about how the Holy Spirit moves within us in a similar way. I believe that we learn the ways of our Lord when we open ourselves to the Holy Spirit that enters us at our baptism. As we grow and mature in Christ, we are able to make choices to go in a variety of directions as we move through those gentle winds. When we face challenges, the wind (Holy Spirit) within us intensifies to lead us down the path towards God.
As humans, we can sometimes be stubborn and try to move into the strong winds and away from our God. We even try to build barricades to isolate ourselves, but the Holy Spirit is strong enough to tear down those walls so that we can rejoin the body of Christ when we are ready. Are you ready for the truth of God? Ready to accept God’s love and mercy. God is waiting with open arms!
Loving God, Thank You for loving us. How can we thank you enough for being there even when we try to move away from you. Thank you for allowing us the freedom to make choices, even when they don’t work out. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: My confidence rests in God, who leads me in right paths.
Feel the wind within you! Pastor Liz
