Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
August 19, 2025
Lamentations 3:21-24
21 I call all this to mind—therefore, I will wait. 22 Certainly the faithful love of the LORD hasn’t ended; certainly God’s compassion isn’t through! 23 They are renewed every morning. Great is your faithfulness. 24 I think: The LORD is my portion! Therefore, I’ll wait for him.
Good Morning! Great is the faithfulness of the Lord!
I love it when so few words say so much! I consider myself a wordsmith, and I appreciate the nuances of arranging words to illustrate my thoughts.
This passage begins and ends with, “I will wait!” Oh, admittedly, this can be a challenge for most of us. If we were in a big assembly, and the leader asked for those who enjoy waiting to raise their hands, I doubt that a single hand would be raised.
I suppose there are degrees of waiting, and it is easier when we know the time frame or the context, but how many times do you feel yourself getting antsy when you are required to wait? Little children have an undeveloped understanding of time, so waiting is especially hard to explain.
As an adult, I have to distract myself when waiting to stay calm. Too many times, I have been waiting to see a doctor, and by the time I get called back, my blood pressure is elevated, not because of a medical problem, but from the wait.
So how do we wait for the Lord? Through prayer, I remind myself each morning and evening of the Lord’s presence in my life, and I thank God for a new or ending day. I aspire to be more patient and not wish away the minutes in a day or week as I await seeing God’s plan revealed in my life. For now, I continue to pray to God who loves and cares for me.
Giving Lord, you bless us abundantly! We are not good at waiting, but by your grace we will aspire to be more patient. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God remains faithful in every season.
God’s plans are unrevealed until their season! Pastor Liz
