Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
September 4, 2025
John 1:1-5
1 In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. 2 The Word was with God in the beginning. 3 Everything came into being through the Word, and without the Word nothing came into being. What came into being 4 through the Word was life, In the Word was life and the life was the light for all people. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness doesn’t extinguish the light.
Good Morning! God’s light shines in the darkness!
Without light, no living things can survive. Particular species of plants and animals live in environments with very little light. They have adapted to gather in this limited light when it is available. People who live near the poles also learn to survive in times of limited sunlight. Many use other forms of lighting to fill this void during the long winter months.
When we consider the concept of “son” light, it is always available to us. The light of Christ is always available to those who seek it and answer the call to follow Jesus. This light sustains us in our times of despair and trouble.
Without the light, we are like creatures stumbling to find our way in the dark. Unlike the sunlight, we choose to receive God’s light. Even on the darkest, bleakest night, God’s love continues to shine to bring us hope and lead us along our way. God’s light is always on to show us the way home.
Loving Lord, you bless us abundantly! Without you, we would never find our way. Thank you for sending the light! Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God’s love and light are with us always.
Look to the light! Pastor Liz
