Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
September 5, 2024
Psalm 8:1-9
1 LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the earth! You made your glory higher than heaven! 2 From the mouths of nursing babies you have laid a strong foundation because of your foes, in order to stop vengeful enemies. 3 When I look up at your skies, at what your fingers made the moon and the stars that you set firmly in place 4 what are human beings that you think about them; what are human beings that you pay attention to them? 5 You’ve made them only slightly less than divine, crowning them with glory and grandeur. 6 You’ve let them rule over your handiwork, putting everything under their feet 7 all sheep and all cattle, the wild animals too, 8 the birds in the sky, the fish of the ocean, everything that travels the pathways of the sea. 9 LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the earth!
Good Morning! O Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the earth!
This morning, a second verse was mentioned: "The Lord hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet." (Nahum 1:3). I don’t think I have ever read or heard this verse. As I sit and watch the clouds this morning, I see a beautiful display of colors: pinks, purples, greys, blues, and white. If I stare long enough, I realize the clouds are slowly moving against the backdrop of trees.
As the new day dawns, evidence of God’s presence is all around. I imagine God dancing in the paint palette and mixing the colors for today’s adventure. Whenever doubts creep into our thoughts, we can look at God’s handiwork surrounding us to refind our center, our cornerstone.
The purple-headed mountains
The rivers running by
The sunset and the morning
That brightens up the sky
All things bright and beautiful
All creatures, great and small
All things wise and wonderful
'Twas God that made them all
Faithful God, Thank you for creating us. We thank you for reminding us that you are always with and among us. As the clouds move past the windows of our lives, we see You. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Look for signs of God’s presence today.
God is good! All the time! Pastor Liz
