Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
September 20, 2025
Mark 10:13-16
13 People were bringing children to Jesus so that he would bless them. But the disciples scolded them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he grew angry and said to them, “Allow the children to come to me. Don’t forbid them, because God’s kingdom belongs to people like these children. 15 I assure you that whoever doesn’t welcome God’s kingdom like a child will never enter it.” 16 Then he hugged the children and blessed them.
Good Morning! All are welcome to God’s kingdom!
From the youngest to the oldest, all are welcome. It’s interesting how we in the “middle” sometimes think the young and the old are less worthy of our attention. Too often, the little ones are gathered in a separate space to avoid interfering with our conversation. They’re noisy and can’t sit still, so let’s remove them.
Then there are our elders who often sit within the group, but are sometimes excluded from the conversation. Not purposely, but they are not invited to share their thoughts.
I say that we as the church will die without the energy the children bring or the sage wisdom from our elders. Jesus welcomes all! It matters not your age, how you dress, your hairstyle, your race, or your gender. All are welcome!
It is up to us to make all who come welcome. Don’t usher anyone away from the group, and be inclusive in our activities and conversations. Have you ever noticed that you learn the most from the children’s message? From the least of these come great revelations.
Loving Lord, you bless us abundantly! Let us embrace all who are present and make them feel worthy. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God speaks to us through all God’s children, so we should listen.
Jesus loves the little children! Pastor Liz
