Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
September 22, 2025
1 Corinthians 1:1-9
1 From Paul, called by God’s will to be an apostle of Jesus Christ, and from Sosthenes our brother. 2 To God’s church that is in Corinth: To those who have been made holy to God in Christ Jesus, who are called to be God’s people. Together with all those who call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place he’s their Lord and ours! 3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 4 I thank my God always for you, because of God’s grace that was given to you in Christ Jesus. 5 That is, you were made rich through him in everything: in all your communication and every kind of knowledge, 6 in the same way that the testimony about Christ was confirmed with you. 7 The result is that you aren’t missing any spiritual gift while you wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. 8 He will also confirm your testimony about Christ until the end so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, and you were called by him to partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Good Morning! Grace and Peace be with you on the cloudy morning!
We are called together with all you call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place! If we drive through Madison County, we see many churches. Some names we recognize, others are new to us. It is common for members of different denominations and those of no denomination to discuss, or even argue, why their way of worship is the right way.
How, what, when, who, and where we do church are human precepts. For the mainstream churches, we trace our ancestry back hundreds or thousands of years to names like Peter, Paul, Augustine, Luther, Calvin, Zwingli, and Wesley. Each of these groups has determined all the rules for worship, Holy Communion, Baptism, and whether they consider themselves liturgical or non-liturgical. Again, these rules are created and enforced by humans.
The thing that connects us is why we do church! We are all God’s children. God loves us. God sent Jesus to teach us to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Jesus gave his life for our sins so that we might have eternal life. We gather in love because God first loved us.
Together with all those who call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place, he’s their Lord and ours!
3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Heaven is not partitioned into areas for the Methodists, Catholics, Episcopalians, Baptists, or even those without a denomination. We are all one body and one family. When we all see Jesus! What a day of rejoicing that will be.
Loving Lord, you bless us abundantly! All are welcome at the table of the Lord! Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Focus on the why: God loves us!
Love God and Love Neighbor! Pastor Liz
