Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
September 28, 2025
Psalm 86:1-7
1 LORD, listen closely to me and answer me, because I am poor and in need. 2 Guard my life because I am faithful. Save your servant who trusts in you—you! My God! 3 Have mercy on me, Lord, because I cry out to you all day long. 4 Make your servant’s life happy again because, my Lord, I offer my life to you, 5 because, my Lord, you are good and forgiving, full of faithful love for all those who cry out to you. 6 Listen closely to my prayer, LORD; pay close attention to the sound of my requests for mercy. 7 Whenever I am in trouble, I cry out to you, because you will answer me.
Good Morning! Happy Lord’s Day!
God is with all who call upon His Holy name.
Most of us have experienced a time when we ask a question and then forget to listen to the answer. Almost immediately, we realize we didn’t get the answer, so we ask again. There are several reasons why this happens. Sometimes, we get distracted by other noise. Other times, the answer is different from what we expect, so it doesn’t register as the correct answer.
This happens with our prayer requests to God. God is always listening and answering, but do we remember to listen for the answer? What if the answer is unexpected? Do we recognize it as God’s answer?
Isaiah 55:8-9 states: "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts higher than your thoughts".
This scripture highlights the infinite difference between God's divine nature and human limitations. God is omnipotent and sees beyond anything we can fathom. God makes everything beautiful and answers all prayers.
Loving Lord, you bless us abundantly! We thank you for listening to and answering our prayers. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God is always listening.
