Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
October 4, 2023
Job 38:1-7
1 Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind: 2 Who is this darkening counsel with words lacking knowledge? 3 Prepare yourself like a man; I will interrogate you, and you will respond to me. 4 Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundations? Tell me if you know. 5 Who set its measurements? Surely you know. Who stretched a measuring tape on it? 6 On what were its footings sunk; who laid its cornerstone, 7 while the morning stars sang in unison and all the divine beings shouted?
Good Morning. Do not put the Lord to the test!
Have you ever been put in a situation where you had rapid-fire questions about something about which you have no knowledge? As an excessively grade-conscious individual, this is a nightmare for me. I have had to attend a meeting covering topics that were not in my knowledge bank, but I wasn’t in the hot seat being questioned. I respectfully smiled, listened, and tried to glean any essence of understanding.
Job was the unsuspecting subject of a test between God and Satan. This was not an enviable place to be in any circumstances. Of course, Job’s friends weren’t helping either as they got Job fired up to defend himself. Ultimately, Job passes the test, but I would rather not be the subject of such an investigation.
Who among us is ready to face God’s interrogation? God calls us to trust and believe. In return, God will bless and protect us. So what must we do? Love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, love our neighbors as ourselves, and go out and make disciples of the world. As for understanding all of the hows and whats, I will smile, listen, and try to glean any essence of understanding as I serve the Lord, my God.
Healing God, We love you! When tested, we often fail, but you continue to love and protect us. Thank you. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Celebrate the mystery of God.
Be grateful and share God with all you meet! Pastor Liz
