Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
October 10, 2023
Matthew 28:16-20
16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshipped him, but some doubted. 18 Jesus came near and spoke to them, “I’ve received all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to obey everything that I’ve commanded you. Look, I myself will be with you every day until the end of this present age.”
Good Morning. Rejoice! Again, I say rejoice!
The Great Commission is included in many vision statements and posted in many churches across the country. Yet, most are challenged actually to do this. We struggle as individuals to share the word with others, and we even struggle as a church body to go into the world and share Christ. In today’s ever-increasing world of violence, many hide inside their churches and pray for mercy.
I have been blessed to meet a few missionaries in my life, and I am in awe of their willingness to lay aside everything and go and serve God in their special calling. Their days are filled with uncertainty and even danger as they go to places where God is not welcome.
Jesus promises to be with us as we embrace sharing the word. When I consider those first disciples, I imagine they were uncertain when they stepped out in faith. With each step, they felt the power of the Holy Spirit growing within them. By the grace and power of God, we are called to step outside our comfort zone and share the Good News with others. It’s okay to start with baby steps and slowly gain our stride to boldly bear the imprint of Christ for the world.
Loving God, We love you! We are uncomfortable talking about our faith with non-believers. Help us trust in Your power. Thank you. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Sharing God’s word with others brings comfort and hope.
Share the joy of Christ! Pastor Liz
