Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
October 10, 2024
Jeremiah 17:7-8
7 Happy are those who trust in the LORD, who rely on the LORD. 8 They will be like trees planted by the streams, whose roots reach down to the water. They won’t fear drought when it comes; their leaves will remain green. They won’t be stressed in the time of drought or fail to bear fruit.
Good Morning! Bless the Lord for another day!
I love my flower garden. The beauty of the flowers, the vibrant colors of the caladiums and coleus leaves, and the endless design combinations inspire me. I have perennials and annuals to provide a diverse palette of color.
I have learned that some plants are more water-dependent than others. My potted plants can be especially needy during droughts or excessive heat. The perennials have the opportunity to establish strong and deep root systems so that they may endure the weather extremes each season.
When we consider our Christian journey, we are like the plants in my garden. In our early days, we require constant attention, or our faith begins to wither, and without the proper attention, our faith will die. As we read the Bible, pray, worship in Christian fellowship, and spend time with God, we develop our foundation of roots to stand firm during times of crisis.
Those with deep roots will continue to bear fruit through the most significant challenges, all because of the overwhelming love of God. Praise be to Him, who loves us!
Dear Lord, We are your children! When we get busy, we forget to water our gardens. Sometimes, we begin to wither because we are starved for water and nourishment. Remind us that you are the living water that will never dry up. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Practicing spiritual disciplines will help us avoid spiritual drought.
Tend your garden! Pastor Liz
