Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
October 11, 2025
James 2:14-17
14 My brothers and sisters, what good is it if people say they have faith but do nothing to show it? Claiming to have faith can’t save anyone, can it? 15 Imagine a brother or sister who is naked and never has enough food to eat. 16 What if one of you said, “Go in peace! Stay warm! Have a nice meal!”? What good is it if you don’t actually give them what their body needs? 17 In the same way, faith is dead when it doesn’t result in faithful activity.
Good Morning! Serve one another in love!
Actions speak louder than words! As Christians, we are called to serve one another. Service comes in many shapes and sizes. Most of us recognize service when we create a product, such as serving someone food, providing clothing, or cutting the grass.
What types of service might we be called to do that are less about a product and more about our presence? Listening to a friend who needs to talk out their problem is one example. We sit and listen without judgment or advice. Just listen as we join together.
Another way to serve is to be intentionally praying for others. During my life, I have been blessed to know some incredible prayer warriors. This praying is more than reading names from a list. This is praying where you consider the specific needs of each one. Even if you don’t know the person or their needs, you can take time to pause and let God fill in the missing pieces.
All are called to serve: the young, the old, the rich, the poor, the weak, and the strong. God calls us to serve using the gifts with which God blessed us.
Loving Lord, you bless us abundantly! So many people need your love and mercy. Help us see and serve them in Your name. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God uses us in many ways!
God loves a cheerful servant! Pastor Liz
