Morning Devotional 101223 Let Joy Flood Your Soul

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

October 12, 2023

Isaiah 43:1-7

1 But now, says the LORD the one who created you, Jacob, the one who formed you, Israel: Don’t fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; when through the rivers, they won’t sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you won’t be scorched, and flame won’t burn you. 3 I am the LORD your God, the holy one of Israel, your savior. I have given Egypt as your ransom, Cush and Seba in your place. 4 Because you are precious in my eyes, you are honored, and I love you. I give people in your place and nations in exchange for your life. 5 Don’t fear, I am with you. From the east, I’ll bring your children; from the west, I’ll gather you. 6 I’ll say to the north, “Give them back!” and to the south, “Don’t detain them.” Bring my sons from far away, and my daughters from the end of the earth, 7 everyone who is called by my name and whom I created for my glory, whom I have formed and made.

Good Morning. Praise the Lord, our Redeemer.

Fear not, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by name. You are mine. These words are so powerful to me. God calls us by name. Not just a general calling to a crowd but to each of us. I am reminded of the Day of Pentecost when each one present heard the Lord speak in their own language.

Our God is God of all, but also our personal God. I remember those times when I was specifically called by name. It is such a good feeling.

I imagine being in a big gathering when I am just another person hanging out in the crowd, and then I hear the one in charge call my name. I am overcome with joy. I might wonder how my name is known. After all, I’m insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

To God, our Creator, we are all important and of equal significance. God knows each of us by name and calls us to come. I’m reminded of an old gospel song that describes my feelings when I hear God speaking directly to me.

What a wonderful change in my life has been wrought Since Jesus came into my heart! I have light in my soul for which long I have sought, Since Jesus came into my heart! Since Jesus came into my heart, Since Jesus came into my heart, Floods of joy o'er my soul like the sea billows roll, Since Jesus came into my heart.

Awesome God, We love you! We are blessed and filled with joy since we invited You into our hearts. Thank you. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: I have nothing to fear because God will never forget me.

Let God’s joy fill your soul! Pastor Liz
