Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

October 12, 2025

Romans 8:26-28

26 In the same way, the Spirit comes to help our weakness. We don’t know what we should pray, but the Spirit himself pleads our case with unexpressed groans. 27 The one who searches hearts knows how the Spirit thinks, because he pleads for the saints, consistent with God’s will. 28 We know that God works all things together for good for the ones who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Good Morning! May the Spirit of the Lord fall afresh on us this morning!

On this rainy morning, I pray that we can let go of our earthly troubles and allow the Holy Spirit within us to speak for us to God. Through our vulnerability, God will find ways to work all things in our lives to bring goodness from the chaos and strength from our weakness.

Surviving in this world requires a certain level of independence, but sometimes in our quest to do so, our independent drive gets stuck in overdrive, leading us to view accepting help as a weakness.

Paul is reminding us that it is in our weakness that we are saved. In his independence, he had been an overzealous Pharisee who was so consumed with persecuting Christians that he could not see Jesus for who he was.

In Paul’s greatest moment of weakness, Jesus spoke to him, and Paul opened his heart to the love of Christ. When we let go and humble ourselves to Christ, the Holy Spirit becomes our adversary and helps us allow Jesus to lead us on our path of righteousness.

Loving Lord, you bless us abundantly! When everything is going as planned, we see ourselves as strong and successful. In our challenging moments, we thank you for not abandoning us and leading us forward. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: In our weakness, we find strength in Christ!
