Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room
October 15, 2021
Read Psalm 92:12-15
12 The righteous will spring up like a palm tree. They will grow strong like a cedar of Lebanon. 13 Those who have been replanted in the LORD’s house will spring up in the courtyards of our God. 14 They will bear fruit even when old and gray; they will remain lush and fresh 15 in order to proclaim: “The LORD is righteous. He’s my rock. There’s nothing unrighteous in him.”
Good Morning! The Lord is my rock and my salvation!
Psalm 92 is a song of praise, and this morning’s verses are the closing of the song. In verse 4, we read For you, O LORD, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your hands I sing for joy. David gives us many Psalms of praise that often came after a great physical or spiritual victory. We should praise our Lord when things are good, but we should also praise God when we are struggling.
The latter is a much more difficult task. Learning to praise God during our adversities takes work because it has to be genuine praise, not the obligatory recitation of words. Each day that we arise is an opportunity to sit up and say, Praise the Lord! Thank you for this day! Rejoice and be glad in every moment! I will say this is the day that the Lord has made
I will rejoice for He has made me glad.
As I grow older, I especially appreciate vs. 14. They will bear fruit even when old and gray . . . When I think of my life in the church, I picture the older members teaching me through their words and through their actions. Especially as they became physically challenged, the joy of the Lord still shone through them. Through their example, I choose joy in all things and I will continue to serve my Lord.
Loving God, Thank You for loving us. You have blessed us in so many ways. Help us to always see and share Your love and mercy with everyone. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: No matter the circumstance, God is faithful.
Rejoice and be glad! Pastor Liz
