Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

October 21, 2025

Psalm 118:1-7

1 Give thanks to the LORD because he is good, because his faithful love lasts forever. 2 Let Israel say it: “God’s faithful love lasts forever!” 3 Let the house of Aaron say it: “God’s faithful love lasts forever!” 4 Let those who honor the LORD say it: “God’s faithful love lasts forever!” 5 In tight circumstances, I cried out to the LORD. The LORD answered me with wide-open spaces. 6 The LORD is for me—I won’t be afraid. What can anyone do to me? 7 The LORD is for me—as my helper. I look in victory on those who hate me.

Good Morning! Give thanks to the Lord because he is good!

Today, I am gathering with family to say our earthly goodbyes to Lowell’s sister Evelyn. It has been forty years since I lived in Indiana, but each time I return, I feel the heartstrings of home. This is where I first accepted Christ for myself, and this is where my family and faith foundation were laid.

Evelyn was a free-spirited child of God who loved to cook, shop, and live as a farmer’s wife. She dedicated herself to caring for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. I knew Evelyn as someone who was excited to try new things and would look for new recipes to prepare for her family.

She would call us frequently and have long chats. What I remember most was her smile and her laughter. She visited us as we moved from Florida to Virginia. One of my favorite trips was a family gathering at the beach in Avon, NC. She got knocked down by a wave, and she was laughing so hard we had to help her get up before the next one rolled in.

She believed in her Lord and Savior, and I know she is with him now. Last night, as I enjoyed watching a 360-degree view of the sunset, I could feel her presence with me.

5 In tight circumstances, I cried out to the LORD. The LORD answered me with wide-open spaces.

Loving Lord, you bless us abundantly! When we feel small and insignificant, God calls us by name. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: The Lord helps me with my struggles.

One more angel has returned home. Pastor Liz
