Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
October 24, 2023
Psalm 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd. I lack nothing. 2 He lets me rest in grassy meadows; he leads me to restful waters; 3 he keeps me alive. He guides me in proper paths for the sake of his good name. 4 Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no danger because you are with me. Your rod and your staff they protect me. 5 You set a table for me right in front of my enemies. You bathe my head in oil; my cup is so full it spills over! 6 Yes, goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the LORD’s house as long as I live.
Good Morning. All praise to God!
Again, it is interesting to read a very familiar passage in a different translation. 3 he keeps me alive. These verses provide us with great comfort at all times of our lives. Whether we are in need or weary, God is with us. When we feel lost and alone, God is with us. Whatever our present needs, God is with us.
Like a loving parent, God sees and anticipates our needs. God allows us the grace to take steps along our chosen path so that we may become strong as we face adversity. Imagine we are a great trapeze artist soaring high above the crowd. We do the safe things, but we also must try the hard things because they are so tempting, and we can’t help but give it a try. God is our safety net so that when we fall (and we all fall at some point), we can land on our feet once again. When we need that extra care, God is with us. Even when all is good, and we feel safe, God is with us just in case we slip.
Awesome God, We love you! You are an awesome God. You give us blessings and show us the way. You let us try new things, but You are waiting in case we need support. Thank you for loving us. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Scripture brings us comfort when we feel alone.
We never walk alone! Pastor Liz
