Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
October 25, 2024
Isaiah 40:27-31
27 Why do you say, Jacob, and declare, Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD, my God ignores my predicament”? 28 Don’t you know? Haven’t you heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth. He doesn’t grow tired or weary. His understanding is beyond human reach, 29 giving power to the tired and reviving the exhausted. 30 Youths will become tired and weary, young men will certainly stumble; 31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength; they will fly up on wings like eagles; they will run and not be tired; they will walk and not be weary.
Good Morning! God raises the weary and renews them!
As the earth’s seasons change, we, too, change. Each season brings new opportunities and fresh expectations. People spend much time debating their favorite and least favorite seasons. In the dog days of summer, we complain about the heat, but when the daily temperatures hover around the freezing mark, we dream of those hot summer days.
It’s amusing to think about the ways we resist change, yet change is the very thing that moves us forward. The progression of seasons reminds us of the big-picture changes around us. The crisp, fresh air of Fall encourages us to go outside and clean up neglected flower beds and lawns so they can be renewed for new growth when their season comes.
Our life journeys are also seasonal. Like the beautiful plants that bring us joy, there is a time for growing and a time for rest. These changes allow us to renew our strength to face a new day of possibilities. We will have days of tremendous growth and spiritual droughts, but God is with us at all times. When we are tired and weary, God is there to give us strength and renewal.
And He will raise you up on eagles' wings
Bear you on the breath of dawn
Make you to shine like the sun
And hold you in the palm of His hand
Dear Lord, We are your children! In our human frailty, we grow tired and weary. By your grace, we are renewed. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Embrace the seasonal changes of our lives!
To everything, there is a season! Pastor Liz
