Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

October 31, 2025

Romans 5:1-5

1 Therefore, since we have been made righteous through his faithfulness, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 We have access by faith into this grace in which we stand through him, and we boast in the hope of God’s glory. 3 But not only that! We even take pride in our problems, because we know that trouble produces endurance, 4 endurance produces character, and character produces hope. 5 This hope doesn’t put us to shame, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Good Morning! Our God is awesome!

The love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit!

Praise God for giving us access to abundant grace. We, God’s creation, struggle to live into the peace that God promises. Instead of believing and trusting, we squirm and stress over every little thing that doesn’t go as we wish or plan.

Most of us have heard of the book, “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff,” but we forget the rest of the title, “and it's all small stuff!” “Don't sweat the small stuff” means not to focus your energy on things that don't hold significant importance in your life.

I sometimes find myself saying, “It doesn’t matter,” but then I continue to let that very thing invade space in my brain and sit there and continue poking at me. The only solution that I’ve found to getting rid of the stress demons lurking within me is to really give my issue to God. Admittedly, I end up playing tug-of-war with God the first time I attempt to give away my issue, but when I actually let go, I find God’s peace.

If I know that, then why do I continue to play the game? Why not just let it go before it becomes a problem? Ah, if it were only that easy! Paul often speaks of being thankful for his struggles because through them, he learns to endure, build character, and find hope, which strengthens him for his long journey to glory.

Thank you, God, for my struggles! May they produce blessings along my journey.

Loving Lord, you bless us abundantly! Thank you for your mercy. Help us turn over our worries to you. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Trust in God’s timing and celebrate each step of our journey.

Trust opens space for peace! Pastor Liz
