Read Psalm 28:1-9
1 I cry out to you, LORD. You are my rock; don’t refuse to hear me. If you won’t talk to me, I’ll be just like those going down to the pit. 2 Listen to my request for mercy when I cry out to you, when I lift up my hands to your holy inner sanctuary. 3 Don’t drag me off with the wicked and those who do evil; the type who talk nice to their friends while evil thoughts are in their hearts! 4 Pay them back for what they’ve done! Pay them back for their evil deeds! Pay them back for their handiwork! Give back to them exactly what they deserve! 5 Because they have no regard for what the LORD has done, no regard for his handiwork, God will tear them down and never rebuild! 6 Bless the LORD because he has listened to my request for mercy! 7 The LORD is my strength and my shield. My heart trusts him. I was helped, my heart rejoiced, and I thank him with my song. 8 The LORD is his people’s strength; he is a fortress of protection for his anointed one. 9 Save your people, God! Bless your possession! Shepherd them and carry them for all time!
Good Morning! For All the Saints!
Each year on All Saint’s Day, I take time to bless the Lord for those who have provided guidance in my life. Whether they still are among us, or have gone on to their eternal glory, they continue to shape who I am. Sometimes we think of saints as being older and wiser than we are. I once met a saint who was but a child.
A few years ago, I was blessed by a young member of our congregation. One Sunday, I noticed that she emitted a special glow during the service. I sensed the joy of the Lord lighting up the sanctuary as I continued to watch her as the service continued. I believe that God chose her for a special calling. As a young adult, she has followed her calling and works in ministry serving God. We never know when God will reveal His plans for us. Be ready to listen!
This Psalm is filled with swings of emotion. It begins with David in despair as he calls out to God. Listen to me! David then moves into his lament, his needs, and his concerns. After laying it all out there for God, David moves into praise for answers and for being by his side. Finally, he concludes with praying on behalf of others.
Vs. 7 The LORD is my strength and my shield is often recited in times of trouble. As Christians, God promises to be with us always and to support us when we are struggling. It is comforting to know that God has been, is now, and will always be there to lift us up. Praise God!
Loving God, Thank You for loving us. We often come to you in despair and sometimes don’t even know how to ask for help, but you are always there and know our thoughts before we can put them to words. Today we say a prayer of thanks for the saints that you have placed in our lives who lead us on our path. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God will help me recognize my strengths.
Blessed is the Lord, our God! Pastor Liz
