Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
November 4, 2023
Romans 10:11-17
11 The scripture says, All who have faith in him won’t be put to shame. 12 There is no distinction between Jew and Greek because the same Lord is Lord of all, who gives richly to all who call on him. 13 All who call on the Lord’s name will be saved. 14 So, how can they call on someone they don’t have faith in? And how can they have faith in someone they haven’t heard of? And how can they hear without a preacher? 15 And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of those who announce the good news. 16 But everyone hasn’t obeyed the good news. As Isaiah says, Lord, who has had faith in our message? 17 So, faith comes from listening, but it’s listening by means of Christ’s message.
Good Morning. Blessed is the Lord of all!
In this passage, Paul is helping us understand that belief/faith is essential to our salvation. Christ came and offered salvation to all, regardless of race, gender, socio-economic status, or education. All who call on the Lord’s name will be saved.
Salvation requires action on our part. First, we must accept Christ as our Lord and Savior. Next, we must call on His Holy Name. The calling shows our faith. You confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord as a result of truly believing in your heart. But words without the heart are empty. This comes back to reacting to the message or listening by means of Christ’s message. We must do more than talk the talk: we must walk the walk. This is how we obey the Good News.
Creator God, We love you! Christ chose to bear the burden for our salvation. We are to listen, not just to words, but to the heart of the message. Help us be the ones Christ saved. Thank you. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God’s saving grace is for all.
Walk in Faith! Pastor Liz
